Just More European Terrorism. (Yawn)
I've had MSNBC on for quite some time (surely long enough to cycle through their list of top stories.)
But if I hadn't just now checked Yahoo's top stories, I would not have known that a car bomb had gone off in Madrid.
I am however (several times over) fully informed on the Michael Jackson trial, and the Runaway Bride's chances of being criminally charged.
I am also (several times over) fully disgusted.
Update: Our own intrepid Spanish correspondent is unimpressed with Yahoo's somewhat blase attitude. Because while their, "move along, nothing to see here" coverage emphasizes the fact that ETA called in a warning, he points out that the bomb went off before the specified time, leading to dozens of injuries.
MS is eager to share the delights of a Minnesota company that has brought weight loss right into the office!
Looking at Google is looking at a history of the casualty count rapidly mounting.
Not to worry -- in the next hour, MS promises coverage of the controversy over Paris Hilton's steamy new commercial.
Update: The story makes CNN's web site. This is significant because unlike the other networks, cable and traditional, CNN is quite protective of the brand, and seems unwilling to use the web page for wire service stories -- what goes up on the web page is CNN product.
Yet CNN, once known as a "visual wire service," the place you turned immediately for breaking news, particularly international breaking news, long ago gave up that mission. (I pinpoint the merger with AOL and the sharp personnel cuts and reorganization right after the 2000 political conventions as the beginning of the end.)
So while CNN starts the hour with substantive news, they tease stories after the first commercial break that are no different from MS -- it's the Runaway Bride's future that's at stake, not ETA's, with not one mention of the word "Madrid."

Well, we have to be informed of the Paris Hilton commercial, because "It's hot."

Car bombs only count in Iraq.
