Reply to A Question#2: Hitler vs. OBL?

Late Update:

Jim Rhodes asks in his comment: "At what point during the period beginning in 1925 and ending in 1938 did Hitler change from being considered by the world's intellectual elite to be merely a wild eyed kook from a ultra depressed part of a beaten down and bankrupt country to a world threat?"

Good question. As matter of fact, the parallel between some Euro-American attitudes toward Bin Laden and IslamoFascism in 2005 are close to those held by European leaders about Hitler in 1935. Back then, basically, many people felt great sympathy for poor, oppressed, beaten-down Germany. [They had forgotten Germany's ruthlessness in victory against Denmark (1864), Austria (1866), France (1870) and Russia (1917)]. So, step by step, in Hitler's path to power, the Democracies accommodated him. What we call appeasement today was an Anglo-French policy that assumed that if you gave Hitler what he wanted then he would settle down and stop asking for more.

Sound familiar? If we just give the IslamoFascists what we think they want--Iraq, Israel, or that all Westerners should leave Saudi Arabia, or whatever, then they will leave us alone.

But there is one lesson in history about all totalitarians, whether they fly the black flag, a red one, or now the green banner: nothing is ever enough. Their ambitions are unlimited. So it was with Hitler; so it is with the Muslim radicals who want to create new superCaliphate.

Today, OBL is a man without an army or a country, but tomorrow, who knows...the world?

The European Common Market and now the EU (especially France) have been accomodating the Arabs since the 70's. I have just started reading Eurabia by Bat Ye'or and it is truly frightening to see how long this has been going on. I have my doubts as to whether Europe will recover its past and have a non Muslim, non Dhimmini future. As stated in the Blog, numbers at the voting booth could well bring in Sharia law in Europe.
