Good for a Post ombuds for going and back and providing additional context when a Post reporter overrelied on a "think tank" which clearly had a specific agenda. I mean honestly, ginning up a story from the shocking news that many military recruits come from the rural areas of the South (and West). I don't know how "respected" a military reporter this woman is (or should be) if she doesn't know (or try and find out) how recruiting data fits into prior context before reporting on it. Reporters, I thought, weren't supposed to allow themselves to be mouthpieces for other people's agendas.
Update: Check out QandO for a more thorough post than I provided, where they pick up something I didn't: the ombuds may have busted the reporter, but her editor still thinks everything is just peachy.
