Shame on NBC
As I noted last night, NBC reports that al Jazeera is showing video from a terrorist group that is claimed to be footage of the attack that recently killed 10 Marines. While NBC notes that the military has told them that it can't be footage of that attack, since in the footage it's clearly daylight, while the attack in question took place at night, they go ahead and show the video anyway.
What is it that the Marines actually have to say about the footage?
A video posted to a terrorist website and aired by some media organizations purporting to show the improvised explosive device attack that killed 10 U.S. Marines on Dec. 1 is disinformation. The circumstances of the IED attack near Fallujah do not match those shown on the video. While we are unable to discern whether the video shown is authentic, the statement that the video shows the Dec. 1 IED attack near Fallujah is false. (My emph.)
Way to go, NBC. You aren't only disseminating terrorist propaganda, you're participating in a terrorist disinformation campaign. Let's not pull punches here: to air the video for the American public (even with hedges and caveats and qualifiers) is to participate in the disinformation campaign, period.
Well, I can see why they'd want to rush to air with something like that, without taking the time to be absolutely positive of what they had. After all, doing so has worked out so well for the American networks and other media organizations up to this point.

Just the nth example of the fact that the lamestream media are in league with our enemies. Given the orientation of the media and the Demos, it is amazing that the support for the war is as high as it is. If they had had the same attitude in WWII, we would either be speaking German, or be lampshdes.

Ah, but at least they're not reporting paid items from DOD. Because that would be propaganda.
Something a free press would never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever tolerate or engage in.
Whereas this is simply good, old-fashioned bad reporting.
Nothing to see here, let's move along....

If it bleeds, it leads!
Remember that. The MSM want attention, ratings, and awards from themselves. How else to justify their existence? True? Not true? Either way they get a story and get our attention. Amoral bastards? Yes.

How is actual video of what our brave boys are facing every day propaganda? You guys are so full of shit you must have to wipe your ears. How many of your friends have died to cover Bush's lies and incompetence? Grab a gun and man a post or shut the fuck up.

"How is actual video of what our brave boys are facing every day propaganda?"
-------
Hey you! Victim of Bush Derangement Syndrome!
It was NOT video of what our brave boys are facing every day!
It was a trick.
NBC willingly went along.
What the fuck do they care if our soldiers die, as long as they get ratings?

SSquirrel,
What post are you manning?

I'd write to every advertiser of NBC News but I have the feeling that they'd just laugh, knowing that if I'm writing, I'm too young to use anything advertised there.
Aw, what the heck, I'll just note I'll be needing them in a couple of years and I'm writing their brands down so's I won't forget.

First, please all stop with the F word.
Second, again, to say that the press is "in league with the enemy" or anything comparable implies intent. I just don't think you can go there without proof. Got proof? Then argue that their ACTIONS may UNWITTINGLY have bad impacts.
Third, yes, this is an info op and placing articles is an info op. Are you really suggesting an equivalence? I would argue that the fact that both sides are engaged in something that would fit in the broad umbrella category of "progaganda" tells you very, very little, certainly about the overall worth of the two sides. And placing articles is certainly different from blowing people up and filming it up.
Fourth, we don't know WHAT this is a tape of, that's the pt. They aired it before they knew what they had -- except that it clearly was NOT what they were discussing, the particular attack they were interested in.
Fifth, how can it be propaganda? Because it isn't news footage filmed by a news crew. It's footage filmed from a duck blind by the very terrorists staging the attack. For the purpose of filming it and getting that footage shown.
And I do not need to "man a post" to have the right to speak to these or any other issues, thank you very much. Now watch your language or I'll delete your next comments from my site.
