Interestingly, a post goes up about battles between warlords and Islamists in Mogadishu on the Counterterrorism blog the day before an article on the topic appears in the New York Times. First lesson: it really is worthwhile to check out that blog. Second lesson: abandoning countries to total anarchy might not be in the best interests of the international community. But, hey, I'm just spitballing here.

Once again, though, you can't help but be astonished how any interchangeable NY Times reporter can imbue any article with moral equivalency and an obstinate refusal to make any judgment whatsoever.

I know lack of a coherent government makes Somalia an ideal location for terroists to set up camp. Short of invading and enforcing order what are we to do about the situation.

At this pt I'm honestly not sure. And I didn't mean to imply that I was. I was mostly just snarking against the UN here.
