Go Soft

Here's a quick little piece that describes some "soft" (ie, non-quantitative) approaches to counterinsurgency drawn from a book on the same topic written by the same authors. I would say that I've read the first several chapters, and found it absolutely fascinating -- but then I use "soft" methods myself, so of course I'm always primed to buy the argument that those approaches have been shorted and need to be given more attention.

For a broader and more theoretical view you might find this article by Maj.Gen.Scales (ret.) of interest The Social Scientists War. He bases it on the work of Alan Beyerchen at OSU.

Scales is also very sharp -- thanks for the cite.
